‘Shadowhunters’ Season 3 Will Center on ‘City of Fallen Angels’ Book

Katherine McNamara, Matthew Daddario, and Emeraude Toubia are all smiles on the press line after the Shadowhunters panel during 2017 Comic Con on Thursday (July 20) in San Diego, Calif.

The three stars, plus Harry Shum Jr, Isaiah Mustafa, Dominic Sherwood, and Alberto Rosende hit up the event, teasing the things to come on the show.

EP and showrunner Todd Slavkin dished on the panel that season three would be looking at “City of Fallen Angels” in The Mortal Instruments book series for the storylines.

“‘City of Fallen Angels’ is what season 3 is all about,” he shared.

“If you’ve read the books then we want you to also be surprised and go on a journey,” he adds. “It’s built in that there will be devastation from the books… It leads to a nice mixture of adaptation and newness.”

Shadowhunters cast talks Jonathan reveal, Jace and Clary butting heads

The most recent episode of Shadowhunters ended with Clary realizing that Jonathan is, in fact, alive. She doesn’t realize that it’s Sebastian at this point, but going forward, Katherine McNamara says it will “change everything” for the heroine, who feels that Jonathan is her “only family left.”

The Shadowhunters cast stopped by EW’s Comic-Con studio to talk about the final episodes of season 2. Aside from the Jonathan of it all, they also touched on what fans can expect from Malec, if there’s a future for Maia and Simon, and what Luke has been up to in the forest.

Watch the full interview above.

Shadowhunters airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on Freeform.
